Detectable Warning Plate - Radius Calculator

Instructions

To determine the number of plates needed, an arc length and a radius are needed. If the arc length is unknown, use the calculator in step 1 to determine it by entering the radius and chord.

TIP - If the radius does not match one of the existing plates, you can figure the arc length in step 1, and then skip to step 3.

Step 1 - Determine Arc Length

Step 1 Results

Radius Height Chord Arc Length

With the arc length known, if the radius matches one of the existing plates, the next step is to choose a plate and determine the number required. If the radius matched an existing plate, it has been entered automatically below.

However, if the radius does not match exactly, skip ahead to Step 3 for the alternate calculation to approximate the radius using alternating sized plates.

Step 2 - Choose Plate

Plate Radius Depth Arc Length Area

Step 2 Results

Plate Radius Total Plates Arc Overrun Total Area

With the plate chosen and the total number of plates known, skip ahead to the final step to obtain an approximate drawing.

Step 3 - Alternate calculation

Approximate a radius using two sizes

Plate 1 Plate 1 count Plate 2 Plate 2 count Arc Overrun Total Area

Due to rounding errors and the approximate nature of this alternate calculation, more than one additional plate may be included.

Final Step - Draw

Obtain an approximate drawing of the plates needed.

The above drawing is only an approximation. To obtain a scale drawing for your project, please contact Neenah directly. Neenah does not recommend cutting plates to fit. However, when necessary plates may be cut to fit but special attention should be given to ADA requirements when doing so.
